SHIFT into the Future
Thanks to Katharine Hayhoe for once again inspiring a Great Idea.
Check out her Talking Climate post, NYC Climate Week: The world Leans in, the U.S. Checks Out, and How to SHIFT into Action – which features her experiences at Climate Week and the UN General Assembly in NYC – 48 meetings, events, talks, panels, receptions, meals, and interviews in five days! Impressive!
Unfortunately, the ‘elephant in the room’ was the US backtracking – losing significant ground – in the past eight months.
What are we doing in our congregations to re-ignite and empower our elected officials to hold their ground – and move forward – with climate change efforts that effect not only the planet’s ability to sustain human life (which should create sufficient urgency), but our immediate economics, destructive weather events, human health, insurance policies, crop-growing abilities, and so much more.
Check out the SHIFT tool Hayhoe mentions in the What You Can Do segment at the end of her post. SHIFT stands for Super High-Impact Initiative for Fixing Tomorrow. That’s a lot of name!
Hayhoe writes, ‘SHIFT is centered around five science-based climate superpowers that enable you, as a citizen, professional, investor, consumer, or role model, to make personal choices that then translate into collective action. In just a few clicks, SHIFT helps you discover your “climate superpower!”‘
What a fun tool to use with young people to help mitigate some eco-anxiety: empowering and impactful!!
What a great tool to use with adults in preparation for voting!
