Lawns 2 Legumes
This Great Idea is 100% from Metro Bloom’s Blue Thumb Program, which shared this exciting opportunity to receive grant funds to change yard space into pollinator habitat!
‘Lawns to Legumes is a planting for pollinators grant program that Blue Thumb facilitates with the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources. Any Minnesotan can apply to receive reimbursement for native planting projects and support at-risk pollinators like the monarch butterfly and rusty patched bumble bee. Each spring and fall, a new cohort of participants gets selected to take part in the program. View a print-ready program overview here.
The state Lawns to Legumes program (L2L) is accepting grant applications for Spring 2026 for native pollinator habitat projects at their homes.
You don’t have to be an expert gardener! L2L provides resources and other support. The current round is for residents to do projects for next spring and summer.
Minnesota residents are eligible to apply for Lawns to Legumes reimbursement-based funding of up to $400 to create pollinator habitat in their yards. We are now accepting applications for Spring 2026 Lawns to Legumes grants. The deadline to apply is November 30, 2025. Grant recipients will be notified in mid-January 2026. Fill out our application form to apply!’
Your congregation – or households within your congregation – could apply for this grant, benefit from the support of a professional consultant, designer, and/or installer (though that work is great community-building time!), and add your congregation and/or community to the growing, beautiful list of pollinator-friendly landscapes!
St Paul Area Synod, ELCA’s, Care of Creation Team is creating a synod-wide map of Pollinator Plots.
Make it ecumenical and get on the map!!
