Introducing: The Web

This is my own Great Idea, but Rev. Dr. Anna Hall at Convergence wrote a stellar introduction – to the same Great Idea, but for churches across the country.

Please read Rev. Dr. Anna Hall’s, Look for the Helpers: Resources for These Days, a February 13, 2025 Convergence post.

Dr. Hall writes, ‘As faith communities, we can struggle to understand our role and how we can help those suffering.

On days like this, I remember the children’s show host Mr. Rogers and his lesson: ‘When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’

She recommends looking in three different places for the helpers:

  1. Local/state groups:
    1. Interfaith Welcome Coalition, San Antonio
    2. Texas Impact
    3. The New Sanctuary Movement of Atlanta
    4. Interfaith Family Pride Fest, Evanston Illinois
    5. Utah Pride Interfaith Coalition
    6. Minnesota Multifaith Network
    7. Durham Congregations in Action
    8. South Dakota Voices for Peace
    9. Interfaith Children’s Movement of Georgia
  2. Denominational efforts:
    1. Unitarian Universalists for Social Justice
    2. UCC Justice and Peace Action Network
    3. Methodist Federation for Social Action
    4. Presbyterians for Earth Care
    5. PCUSA Gender, Racial and Intercultural Justice
    6. Disciples of Christ Justice and Advocacy Ministries
    7. ECUSA Social Justice and Advocacy
    8. Join the Movement UCC
  3. National organizations with local/state chapters:
    1. Interfaith Power and Light
    2. United Women in Faith
    3. National LGBTQ Task Force Partners in Faith and Spirituality
    4. Interfaith Alliance
    5. CROP Hunger Walk

We’ve done some more of this work for you, too.

Please find additional local, regional, and national organizations in The Web, our own list of ‘curated organizations working to support and enhance the freedoms, rights, and acceptance of increasingly marginalized peoples and creation’.

We’ve organized The Web by both ‘threads’ of concern/ministry arenas and by type of ministry. For instance, if your congregation is committed to working with Differently-Abled or Neurodiverse peoples, you may want to work in legislative advocacy, in making your congregation a safe(r) space, in connecting people with resources, in direct action (i.e., providing support to families), or in living into God’s preferred future. In most ‘threads’, alternative organizations are included for these different approaches to ministry.

This is a resource in the making. If you know of an organization we should add, please let me know. If you would like to find an organization but don’t find a fit in The Web, I am happy to discover additional organizations on your behalf.

I encourage you to visit the Home tab for introductions and Start Here for guidelines on using the lib guide.
