Talking Solar – Some More
This Great Idea is inspired by Katharine Hayhoe (Climate Scientist and author of the Talking Climate blog and Saving Us: A Climate Scientist’s Case for Hope and Healing in a Divided World – Simon & Schuster, 2021).
Let’s talk solar:
I continue to pray more congregations will get solar panels on every available surface of their buildings.
MNIPL will gladly help discover and navigate financial support for such a project.
Becoming part of the energy grid in your area not only has long-term financial dividends for the congregation, but can create greater energy equity throughout your community. (See our Community-Based Good News Great Idea for inspiration.)
It turns out, Europe is weighing in – and making strides – on getting historic buildings covered in solar. According to Hayhoe, Historic England, ‘will now be encouraging local councils to allow heat pumps, solar panels, and insulation for Europe’s oldest housing stock’ – which ‘makes up about 5 percent of the UK’s carbon emissions’.
Can churches lead the way to upgrading our energy and heating sources in our local communities???
What if congregations – with solar, wind, and/or heat pumps – became energy centers for their communities? Talk about the Holy Spirit’s fire on the move!!
There are loads of possibilities with this – I’m happy to ideate with anyone interested in further exploration.
