Using Art in Worship
Thanks to Rev. Elsa Anders Cook for sharing this Great Idea!
Rev. Anders Cook encourages us to explore using visual art in worship in more experiential and evocative ways than the limited reach of banners and bulletin covers. She offers suggestions for utilizing art as a means to:
- Center – during Gathering time
- Pray – as a conversation partner or to share with a conversation partner
- Experience – an invitation to deeper theological and spiritual reflection
- Create – engage the body, mind, and heart with responsive art
Cook includes links to tutorials and how-tos for creating art prepared before/for worship and suggestions for creating art as part of/during worship.
Every generation can connect with art in all of these ways – a great tool for more intergenerational and interactive prayer and worship!
