Six New Things – Week of January 25, 2021
Perhaps as a pre-cursor to Lent, we’ve got a journeying theme, this week:
One
Starting with Keila Dawson‘s Opening the Road: Victor Hugo Green and His Green Book (Beaming) is “the first picture book about the creation and distribution of The Green Book”, the travel guide that opened the road to a “safer, more equitable America” for African American travel.
Two
Walter Brueggemann has an Updated Edition of Journey to the Common Good (WJK), providing a “framework to help the church navigate this time of risk and vulnerability to pursue genuine social change”. Access a free chapter (Parts 1-3 of Chapter 1: Journey to the Common Good”).
Lisa Deam brings the journey to a more personal level with 3000 Miles to Jesus: Pilgrimage as a Way of Life for Spiritual Seekers (Broadleaf), bringing alive “the rich stories of medieval pilgrims and helping us draw rich application for our walks of faith today”.
Three
Illustrated Ministry is escorting us into Spring and Summer with their: Worship Resources for Lent; Children’s Bundle; Children’s Bulletins; and Bible Story Coloring Pages. They’ve also unveiled Compassion Camp for Summer, 2021: same compassion-building emphasis, new content!

Four
For families on a spiritual journey together, Chris Coe compiled Everyday Prayers for Families; for those journeying through a season of grief or loss, Prayers for Comfort and Encouragement (both Broadleaf).
Five
For those guiding faith communities through tumultuous times, Rev. Anna Kendig Flores, the PTCA’s Anti-Racism Institutional Assessment Coordinator, shared, Equity Lens on Preaching & Praying: Reflecting on the Insurrection on Capital Hill; and United Theological Seminary Professor J. Samual Subramanian offers The Four Gospels: An Introduction for Teaching and Preaching (Cokesbury).
Six
